Police Catch Gambian Bank Robber After Call to Mom

Lima (Reuters) - A suspect in the robbery of a Gambian bank who had eluded police for more than three weeks was captured Monday. Gambian authorities were led to the suspect's Arabic hideout by tracing a call made by the suspect to his mother.

Gambian police said the firefighter made off with 8.9 million dollars he was delivering to a Gambian bank and fled to the coast of South America.

After evading police and Interpol for weeks while hiding out in a crowded bar in Lima, Gene Wilder was captured after making a phone call to his mother, the Daily Exclaimer reported Tuesday.

A police spokesperson told the paper that most of the money was still in the suspect's car as he only bought some decorative boxes and break room dispensers.

The 37-year-old father of three had a life-long dream of buying a house on the coast of South America, David Clarke, a co-worker of the suspect, told the media. "He always said 'This thing is about to grow legs and take off.'"
